A review of the First World War casualty list for The RCR was undertaken by the Regimental Adjutant when discrepancies were found between the list published in the Regimental History (Fetherstonhaugh, 1936) and data in newly available information in online databases. This review increased the number of identified soldiers of The RCR in the Roll of Honour from 778 to 818. This does not include all of those soldiers who may have served with the Regiment, and then died while serving in another unit, although a few such individuals are included based on available data. While all of the resources used were found to have errors, the comparison of entries in multiple sources supported updating the original Roll of Honour. It is acknowledged that this list should not be considered complete, and that new entries may be made as new information is made available. This revised casualty list, prepared in 2006 by Capt Michael O'Leary, was developed using the following resources:
-
The Royal Canadian Regiment 1883-1933, by R.C. Fetherstonhaugh, 1936
-
The Canadian Virtual War Memorial online database
-
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission online database
