2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, occupies Gregg Barracks at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Gagetown, New Brunswick.

LCol Alex Ruff grew up in Tara, ON and enrolled in the Canadian Forces in June 1993. He attended university at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, ON.
On graduation in 1997 from RMC with an Honours Bachelor of Space Science, he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer into The Royal Canadian Regiment (The RCR).
He was then posted to the 3rd Battalion, The RCR in Petawawa, ON until 2002 as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Mortar Platoon Commander and Second in Command of Oscar Company. During this time, he participated in Operation RECUPERATION (Ice Storm) and completed two operational peacekeeping tours in Bosnia (1998-99 and 2001).
In 2002-03, LCol Ruff successfully completed the one year Land Force Technical Staff Programme in Kingston prior to being posting to the Infantry School at CFB Gagetown, NB where he was employed as the Infantry Corps Technical Adjutant, Staff Officer Director Infantry and Operations Officer until his promotion to Major in April 2006.
After finishing the Combat Team Commander's Course in May 2006, he was posted to the 2nd Battalion, The RCR and took command of Hotel Company. From late January to early August 2007, LCol Ruff commanded Hotel Company on combat operations in Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross.
LCol Ruff was then employed with the Directorate of Land Concepts and Design (DLCD) as the Team Leader for the Battle Group 2021 Study embedded with 2 RCR from Oct 2007 to July 2009. After attending the year long Joint Command and Staff Programme at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto (Aug 09-Jun 10), he was posted to the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) Headquarters in Ottawa where he was promoted to his current rank and employed as the J7 in charge of training and doctrine. LCol Ruff assumed command of 2 RCR on 9 June 2011.
LCol Ruff enjoys most sports, which include running, hockey, volleyball, basketball and badminton. He's had the privilege of canoeing the Nahanni River in the Northwest Territories and has SCUBA dived all over the world (Caribbean, New Zealand, Croatia, Bonaire, Colombia, and Australia to name a few). He lives in Lincoln, NB with his wife, Erica.

Chief Warrant Officer Rolfe was born in Oshawa Ont on the 1st of Oct 1966 however calls NS home as he live there most of his pre CF life. CWO Rolfe enrolled in the CF on the 24th of Feb 1987; where he went on to complete his training and report into 1 RCR (London) in the fall.
Upon reporting into 1 RCR he went on to complete a series of QL 4 courses that commenced with Basic Assault Pioneer and driver wheel. In 1988 upon completion of his ISCC he was promoted to the rank of Master Corporal and completed his first Operational tour to Cyprus and would remain in 1 RCR until the Bn moved to Petawawa. He would complete his Advanced pioneer and small arms courses prior to leaving 1 RCR having been a member of both Charles Company and Echo Company.
As a MCpl he spent time with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry as part of the 3 RCR 10/90 Bn in 1993. In 1996 he was posted to 2 CMBG Light Infantry Bn as a member of the Assault pioneer platoon and got promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
In 1998 he would be posted back to 1 RCR after 2nd language training where he would pass time in Echo and Bravo Company's as a Sgt and would get promoted to Warrant Officer in 2000. He would also deploy twice between the years of 1998 to 2004 once to Kosovo and the last Roto to Bosnia.
In 2006 he was posted to the Infantry School in Gagetown where he would instruct on both CAP and DP 1.1 officer training. In 2006 CWO Rolfe was posted to 3 RCR as CQ November Company. He was promoted to the rank of Master Warrant Officer in 2007 and would go on to be the Company Sergeant Major for November Coy for 3 RCR's deployment to Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
Upon redeployment he was appointed the Drill Sergeant Major for both the 2nd Bn and the 3rd Bn. He was promoted to his current rank in May 2011 and spent a brief stint as the Infantry Corp Career Manager.
Chief Warrant Officer Rolfe and his wife Barbara enjoy the quiet life when the opportunity presents itself. They have a daughter, Jessica pursuing University life, and a son Tyler currently working and exploring what's next in life.
