The RCR Museum Capital Campaign
LCol Omer Lavoie, CO 1RCR, speaks at The London Club - 13 June 2007
"Building for the Future"
The London Club was the setting for an event on 13 June 2007, when The RCR Museum "Building for the Future" Capital Campaign hosted a presentation by Lieutenant Colonel Omer Lavoie, Commanding Officer of the First Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment. It was an opportunity for the invited guests and potential donors to hear a first-hand account of The RCR's role in Afghanistan.
Having just returned to Canada in March, LCol Lavoie commanded his Battalion in Afghanistan from August 2006 until February 2007. LCol Lavoie's captivating presentation described the actions of 1RCR at the battle of Panjwaii, actions that earned 1RCR a recommendation for a Battle Honour and two Stars of Military Valour for soldiers of The Regiment. Those in attendance came away from the evening with a greater appreciation of the situation in Afghanistan and a feeling of genuine pride in the job being done by our troops.
