Passing of Col T.D. Lafferty

Regret to advise the death of Col Terry Lafferty, CO 1 RCR 1964-65.  From the obituary published in The Ottawa Citizen on 17 Dec 11:


"LAFFERTY, Terence Delamere Colonel (Retired ) 1st Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment
Peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2011 in his 88th year. Terence Lafferty, beloved husband and best friend of Jean (nee Patrick). Loving father of Patricia (Brian Shane), predeceased by son Terence and infant daughter Laura. Proud grandpapa of Christopher (Sarah) Shane and his dear great-grandson Boston Delamere Shane. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Predeceased by brothers Patrick and James Lafferty. A private family graveside interment will be held in the National Military Cemetery of Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. In memoriam donations to your favorite charity greatly appreciated by the family."

My deepest condolences on the passing of Col.Lafferty to his family and friends.Col.Lafferty was my last c.o. in my military life.Will always remember one time in Fort York Germany, when a paricular Sgt.had given a lesson on N.B.C.W. to the officers and sr.n.c.o.,s of the Bn.,the Battle Adj.had introduced the instructor as our expert on this subject.After the lecture,the Col.thanked the instructor for his fine efforts,but reminded the Battle Adj.and all of us one thing He said there is no such a thing as an expert.He said the definition of an expert is.An x is an unknown quantity and a spurt is a drip under pressure.He said this not with sarcasm,but wisdom. I have never forgotten this, and will always remember the Colonel,s wise definition.r.i.p. Sir.

  During my service in The Int Section in Germany I spent quite a bit of time around Lt Col Lafferty. During the last tour of our unit..1 RCR.. he had turned the battalion into a very professional force. In the last Brigade exercise over there before rotation we were outdoing the other battalions and most of the Brits in BAOR. Rest in Peace....Rick Rankine
