So glad to have found this bulletin board. My father was in the RCR (joined January 1939) and spent 1940-45 overseas. He passed away several years ago but we recently found his 1940 diary in which he journalled his year at Camp Aldershot, England with "A" Company.
We have developed a blog which will share his words
www.aldershot1940.com His day by day writing will begin on January 1 2011, but in the interim we are posting background information once a week for interested readers.
It was an exciting year for him; infantry and artillery training, exploring the culture of greater London, meeting and marrying our mother. We believe his writings about army life will ring true for present day service people. We hope some of your readers will enjoy following along.
We welcome postings on the blog or at
aldershot1940@gmail.comCheers!
Toni (daughter of Private Reginald Murphy, "A" Company RCR)
