Medals named to soldiers of the Regiment appear on the market, either through dealers or on-line sales, quite infrequently. Often, those that do appear have been separated from documents and other artifacts that help to define the soldier's life and experiences. In many cases, medals have even become separated from the other medals the soldier was awarded, often because the medals of soldiers who died over seas, or who passed away later in life, were shared between family members so that each might have a memento of the man.
This dispersal of effects, and separation of artifacts, occurs when following generations don't find the need to keep all items (or keep them together) to satisfy their own emotional needs for a sentimental connection. Because of this it is especially endearing when medals appear that have been kept with associated artifacts.
Today I received the latest addition to my little collection of regimental medals. It was delight to unwrap the package and see the collection of badges that came with them.
