1933 Reunion Panoramic Photo

Today I was fortunate to acquire an original of the panoramic photo taken at Wolseley Barracks during the 1933 Reunion. Text on the photo reads:

R.C.R.

Royal Canadian Regiment 50th Anniversary Reunion, including
RCR London
RCR B Co. Toronto
RCR A Co. Halifax
RCR St John's PQ
also Old Comrades

Held at Wolsley [sic] Barracks, London, Ontario
Sept 9, 10, 11, 1933

A close look at the photo shows a large number of First World War veterans, some still serving and others among the Old Comrades.  The medal groups include OBEs, DSO, MCs, MMS and long service medals, among others. Many of the Old Comrades appear to be wearing the silver 1/2-inch cap badge lapel pin with a short piece of 1-inch wide regimental ribbon behind it.

As I continue to research the soldiers of the Regiment in the First World War, I will try and out names to some of the faces.

Wow what a great pic. To think that I have also had my pic taken on that hill.

When I find the time, I'll get a larger version up on my website. Right now all my spare time is being taken up working on a First World War nominal roll for the Regiment.

Last Thursday I discovered another original of the same photo in Meaford in the Milton F. Gregg Room of the Centurian Mess. It's fascinating. Stands to reason there would be multiple copies as those in attendance would want one. I wish we had the foresight to have done a similar photograph at the 125 Reunion, particularly after the AGM or Memorial Parade.

Interesting, it wasn't there during my last trip to Meaford, although I have photographed the other old regimental photos that were in that room. I believe the main one was the officers of the 3rd (Special Service) Battalion.
