From Al Ditter, the program for the 'Freedom of the City' parade and the 'Torchlight Tattoo.'
There were two official events marking the departure of 2RCR from Fort York and the city of Soest. A torchlight parade was held in the Soest Stadtpark at which Band Sergeant A.W. Provert, music instructor for the 2RCR Corps of Drums, presented the sheet music for "Farewell to Soest", a march he had composed for the band, to the Burgermeister. The second event was the battalion's final exercise of its Freedom of the City. It was the final event for the battalion's pioneer platoon before it was disbanded.

An officer in The Canadian Guards should at all times, by intelligent study, conscientious application to his work and continual observation, seek to make himself so competent, so confident and so correct in all matters connected with the Profession of Arms that if he were to state in the presence of any military audience that "Pigs have wings", he would at once be both understood and believed. The wise officer, of course, will weigh all his statements carefully before he makes them. (ASAG 1960)

Big oops here! I mistakenly misnamedthe regimental band in the torchlight event. It was, as the program states, the Regimental Band of the RCR, not the Van Doos. Apologies to all. aldi
