Interesting....

I was intrigued to see Somalia listed in the quote, so I looked his name up in the two books I have of Somalia that have the CAR BG nominal roll to see who he'd been with there... No Dykens. Went to the GG's website and looked up his name for MB and MMM... Again no Dykens. Why wouldn't he be listed?

Hello,

I'd like to thank you all for your kind words and condolences. I am Nicole Dykens, Rick's neice (Leaonard and kathy's daughter). I'm putting together a scrap book of letters and memories for the visitation on Tuesday and I wanted to give you all a chance to send any letters or memories you have of  Ricky and I would be more than happy to include them. We are also looking for any photos of Rick to put into a frame as a collage for the visitation and funeral services. I know some of you have already been in contact with the family and your contributions of letters, photos, thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.

Thank-you once again,

Nicole

My thanks to all those who sent condolences. The family was deeply moved and are sincerely grateful.
Rick was buried with the 2RCR Pipe-Major playing Amazing Grace and Flowers of the Forest (Rick loved the latter).
He was laid to rest in Ste Croix, Hants County, surrounded by family, friends, comrades from the West Novies, The RCR and 1NSH.
Comd 3ASG and Comd 36Bde attended.
Rick and I also shared the bond of Freemasonry and found it very helpful in re-integrating here on "the outside".
In fact, the very night before Rick passed I watched him installed as a fellow officer in our Lodge. He was made our Marshall which was a perfect fit for him, in that it involves alot of "drill and ceremonial". I was very proud of him, since he had suffered alot physically and mentally in the recent past and finally felt ready to take an office. Unfortunately he died tragically of a massive heart attack before his official duties commenced. In his honour, our Worshipful Master has decreed that Rick's chair (office) shall remain vacant for the remainder of this year so that, symbolically he will still serve as Marshall. His Marshall's baton and collar with jewel will be laid upon his seat for each meeting and another brother will fill in as Marshall if needed.
I gave Rick his "space" over the past few years because I didn't want the Cap'n to think Sarge was being to pushy...you guys know what I mean. I mostly ever saw him at Lodge and since I was also suffering from some PTSD issues I was a bit of a recluse myself for awhile. It is tragic that just as his mind was beginning to heal; his body quit. May he rest now in peace.
Once again, thank you all and

PRO PATRIA!
