RA,

What was the year of the first Depot graduation in London?  It's not on the post.

I really missed the Dundas Street Armouries when we moved  out.  Our new quarters in Prevost Armouries (formerly the location of HMCS Prevost) were rather sterile compared to the castle with turrets that Dundas Street was.  The last time I saw it, Dundas Armouries had become a hotel and the doorman was uniformed in a set of RCR Scarlets complete with Wolseley pattern helmet.  The foyer was adorned with regimental photographs of the Royals and the Hussars.  I have no idea what the building looks like now.

Cheers,
Dan.
An officer in The Canadian Guards should at all times, by intelligent study, conscientious application to his work and continual observation, seek to make himself so competent, so confident and so correct in all matters connected with the Profession of Arms that if he were to state in the presence of any military audience that "Pigs have wings", he would at once be both understood and believed. The wise officer, of course, will weigh all his statements carefully before he makes them. (ASAG 1960)

June 15 - June 21

June 15 - 1940  Lieutenant FW Campbell wins Victoria Cross - "For most conspicuous bravery on 15 June 1915 during the action at Givenchy. Lieutenant Campbell took two machine guns over the parapet, arrived at the German first line with one gun, and maintained his position there under very heavy rifle, machine gun and bomb fire, notwithstanding the fact that almost the whole of his detachment had been killed or wounded. When the supply of bombs had become exhausted, this officer advanced his gun still further to an exposed position, and by firing about 1,000 rounds, succeeded in holding back the enemy's counter-attack. This very gallant officer was subsequently wounded, and has since died."

Lieutenant Campbell's Victoria Cross was published in the London Gazette 23 August 1915.
