Victorian Helmet Plate
« on: April 06, 2009, 08:17:02 PM »
Searching for information concerning the Royal Canadian Militia Regiment.
Attached is an image of the Victorian helmet plate belonging to this regiment.
Is this regiment part of the RCR family tree? Where was it raised? What is its history?
Can anybody help with info?

Greetings. I believe our resident Regimental Rogue can help you out. He has an excellent site, of which their is a hatbadge section.

AVI,

I am quite certain there's no connection between that helmet plate and The RCR.

Michael

(PS: Unless it's hung up in a server somewhere, I haven't received an e-mail.)

Thanks, Michael
That's a rather emphatic no. OK
What do you know about the Royal Canadian Militia Regiment? I've googled to no avail.
Can you point me in the right direction?
The email to your forces address. It hasn't bounced yet.

The "Royal Canadian Militia Regiment" doesn't show up in Stewart's Concise Lineages, nor is it listing in the cached pages of the site Regiments.org (sadly not on line right now).  I've actually got no idea where to look for further information, or even if this unit actually existed.

(If the e-mail was to my Forces address, that's why I haven't seen it.  As a part-timer with the 4th battalion these days, I don't get on the DND system as often as I used to.)

The photo of the badge was taken at the War Museum last year. The badge and shako are no longer on display.
Online, the museum webpage lists "no further info" on this item.
I've not been able to find a contact at the WM - any suggestions?
Alex

The War Museum does have a dedicated curator for badges and medals who may be able to help.  Unfortunately, I don't have contact details.

The individual responsible for Insignia at the War Museum is Eric Furnberg.  He can be reached at 819.776.8653.  He is very helpful.  I am on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Canadian War Museum and if I can help, let me know

Thanks, Sandy
I'll follow up on that. Maybe we'll meet up at the Beer Call end of the month.
Will you be there?
