Project Girouard
« on: April 05, 2009, 03:25:27 PM »
Fellow Members,

I am seeking photographs or video footage for Project Girouard.  The project is two-fold. First, a documentray on the life and soldiering of Chief Warrant Officer Robert (Bob) Girouard which is uinder the guidance and cooperation of Major General (ret'd) Ivan Fenton. Second to assit his wife Jackie and her family who are gathering information for another project.  RHQ asks you to dig out your photo albums and video footage and forward digital scans or photographs as well as any video footage of Bob that you may have.  Your originals if you send them will be returned. We are particularly interested in any items that you may have including newspaper articles of Bob involved in hockey. For those that knew Bob hockey was a huge part of his life and he played for many an RCR and Base Hockey team. There must be team photos out there somewhere.

Please take the effort to go through your memory boxes and albums.

Bobby is sitting on the tracks, 4th from the right.  He was, during the era, one of the best players on the 3RCR Royals, my God, he could skate like the wind. Rest in peace, Bob, we shall not forget.

I believe I have a few from a Recce party with Bob & Jackie 'relaxing' if these are of interest?

Jeff Wood, who many know and was killed in the grenade "accident" in Sennelager, is also in the picture, second from the right in second row, in the TQ4 Mortar course picture. Come on guys and start naming the rest of the lads in the picture.

OK Abe it's been 28 years so here goes.
Sitting left to right MCpl Chuck Courtemanche, Sgt Greg Starkey, Sgt Tom O'Shea, WO KK Keuhl, Capt Tom Tarrant, Sgt Gary Sherren, Sgt Jack Salsman (RIP), MCpl Abe Doney, MCpl Ernie Lajeunnesse.

Row 2 left to right Cpl Dwyer?, Cpl Sean Macarthy, John Carty(in work dress), Pte Wayne O'Toole, Pte Brian Finokio, Pte Jim Deslaurier, Pte George Blair, Pte Roger Haytor, Pte Watson, Pte Darren Simpson, MCpl Jeff Wood (RIP), Pte John Ezechial, Pte Guy Lagasse.

Row 3 left to right Cpl Keith Ruttan, Cpl Harvey Guillotte, Cpl Pat Trainor, Pte Pete Stewart, Pte David Goebel, Cpl John Short, Pte Bobby Girouard (RIP), Cpl Pat Williams, Cpl Charlie Guthro, MCpl Dennis Lee, Pte Curtis Bonner.
Bonus point for the guy in the background he is in Gagetown now in CFSME - Sgt Williams.

Apologies to guys whose names I mispelled.
When we left Germany in 1984 some guys stayed as civvies, Deslaurier and Bonner.
I see Ruttan once or twice a year. Ezechial is an engineer. I spoke with Sean Macarthy last week.
Greg Starkey is I believe a Major in the reserve. Gary Sherren was a CWO in the PEI Regiment 3 years ago at a mess dinner with us in 2RCR. Last year Capt Tarrant was a full Colonel. You get a decent memory like this from not shining mess tins too much. I just suffered and did the pushups.

Very good memory Wayne. Yep, you weren't much on the spit and polish back then, that's why they made you an MWO and gave you the MMM to boot. We'll meet again at some reunion, i'm sure. In the meantime - take care. BTW - Greg Starkey was a MCpl on that course.

I count one CWO and three MWO's in that picture and that's not even counting the officers. Says something about the guys who served back then.

I know this a sad picture but, well, it is a part of the story.

Rest in peace, Bobby.

With all due respect Adj, are we remembering a soldier or a hockey player?
